Nach unserem Abstecher nach David Gareji sind wir nach Gori gefahren, der Geburtsstadt von Josef Stalin<\/a>. Bereits auf der Fahrt war einiges geboten: Am Stadtrand von Tiflis konnten zuf\u00e4llig wir einem Stra\u00dfenrennen beiwohnen (die Autos dabei typisch georgisch ohne Sto\u00dfstange), es war jede Menge Architektur aus der Sowjetzeit zu bestaunen und wir kamen auf der \u10e1-1 (S-1) bis auf wenige hundert Meter an die abtr\u00fcnnige Provinz S\u00fcdossetien heran. \u00dcberrascht wurden wir zudem durch eine fast 1 Meter hohe Bodenwelle \u2013 ein Tempolimit oder zumindest ein Warnschild ist in so einem Fall in Georgien offenbar zu viel verlangt. Damit ergibt auch der immer wieder gerne vom Ausw\u00e4rtigen Amt gegebene Tipp \u201eVon Nachtfahrten au\u00dferhalb der St\u00e4dte wird abgeraten.<\/em>\u201c einen Sinn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Gori haben wir etwas gebraucht, bis wir unsere Unterkunft<\/a> gefunden haben. Das lag neben den nur teilweise vorhandenen Stra\u00dfenschildern auch daran, dass das Guest House von au\u00dfen v\u00f6llig unscheinbar ausgesehen hat: Kein Schild, Hohe Mauer und ein unverputztes Haus mit Flachdach. Wie so oft hat der erste Eindruck aber get\u00e4uscht: Im Inneren hat das Haus bestochen mit wundersch\u00f6nem Parkett, hohe Decken, Stuck und einem Fl\u00fcgel im prunkvollen Wohnzimmer. Am n\u00e4chsten Morgen hat uns die nette Gastgeberin beim Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck die Vorz\u00fcge ihrer Heimatstadt n\u00e4her gebracht: \u201eThere’s nothing to see!<\/em>\u201c. In Sachen Lokalpatriotismus und Eigenvermarktung besteht hier noch klarer Verbesserungsbedarf!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neben dem Stalinmuseum<\/a> gibt es n\u00e4mlich durchaus etwas zu sehen: Neben einer wundersch\u00f6nen Landschaft zum Beispiel die H\u00f6hlenstadt Uplisziche<\/a>. Dort fand ich besonders beeindruckend, dass das im 6. Jahrhundert v. Chr. gegr\u00fcndete Uplisziche bereits damals eine Kanalisation aus Abflussrinnen und Wasserkan\u00e4len besa\u00df.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After our detour to David Gareji, we drove to Gori, the birthplace of Josef Stalin. There was already a lot on offer on the journey: On the outskirts of Tbilisi, we happened to be able to watch a street race (the cars were typically Georgian, without bumpers), there was plenty of architecture from the Soviet era to marvel at and we came within a few hundred meters of the breakaway province of South Ossetia on the \u10e1-1 (S-1). We were also surprised by a speed bump almost 1 meter high – a speed limit or at least a warning sign is obviously too much to ask for in Georgia in such a case. This also makes sense of the advice often given by the Foreign Office: „Driving at night outside the cities is not recommended“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Gori, it took us a while to find our accommodation. Apart from the fact that there were only some street signs, this was also due to the fact that the guest house looked completely inconspicuous from the outside: No sign, high wall and an unplastered house with a flat roof. As is so often the case, however, first impressions were deceptive: inside, the house was captivating with its beautiful parquet flooring, high ceilings, stucco and a grand piano in the sumptuous living room. The next morning, the friendly hostess told us about the advantages of her home town over breakfast: „There’s nothing to see!“. When it comes to local patriotism and self-promotion, there is clearly room for improvement here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides the Stalin Museum, there is definitely something to see: In addition to a beautiful landscape, for example, the cave town of Uplisziche. I was particularly impressed by the fact that Uplisziche, which was founded in the 6th century BC, already had a sewer system consisting of drainage channels and water canals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
